Four graduate from Law Enforcement Training Academy


EAST CAMDEN – Four local law enforcement officers recently participat ed in Basic Police Training Class 2007- A at the Arkansas Law Enforce ment Training Burton Ac ademy in East Camden.
Officers completing the course include Deputies Ross Burton and Josh Newton of the Union County Sheriff’s Office and Patrolmen Brian We s t and Lisa Boggs of the El Dorado Police Depart ment.
The 12- week, 480 hour course, which Newton began Jan.
7, included instruction in stan dard police tactics, firearms, legal, educational, technical skills and practical exercises. In each course, emphasis is placed upon the officers achieving excellence in both academic subjects and firearms training.
An officer must maintain an academic West score of at least 70 percent on each examination and consistently fire at least 80 percent during firearms training exercises to successfully complete all phases of the course.
Graduation ceremonies were conducted at 10 a.m. on March 30 at South Arkansas University Tech’s gymnasi- Boggs um.
Guest speaker for the occasion was Special Agent Steven Frazier with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
